back pain

Nothing is more disturbing to a person’s life than nagging back pain. Not only can back pain restrict and interrupt our daily lives, it can even affect our sleep.

Back pain is primarily the result of spinal nerve pressure (pinched nerves). When you have a pinched spinal nerve, it is usually the result of one of the backbones being out of place.

If you are experiencing a pinched nerve in your back, the nerve pressure causes the nervous system to constantly “fire.” Even when you’re sleeping the nervous system will be stimulated which will interrupt your sleep.

As a matter of fact, one of the most common low back injuries can occur when we sleep. If we sleep on our side, it is easy for us to twist our lower backs. This torque effect can knock one of the delicate backbones out of place and pinch a nerve.

The best way to avoid the torque effect is to sleep with a pillow in between your knees. The pillow will act like a wedge to prevent a person from twisting too far.

Besides sleep disturbance, a pinched spinal nerve can result in impotence, urinary problems, leg pain, and many other related conditions.

Most back pain can be avoided using simple precautions. For instance, keeping your elbows close to your side when lifting anything, shifts the object’s weight from your low back to your upper back. This area of the back is better designed for lifting.
